Forecast: 100% Chance of a Good Day to sk8

For a long time, I worked at Next Adventure — Portland’s favorite outdoor and adventure shop (RIP to a local legend). What started as a job turned into a long run of creative projects with some really good people.

One of my favorite projects that I got to make was this series called the Next Adventure Weather Report. My buddy Orrin and I would meet up once a week for a year, throw him in front of a green screen, and just roll with whatever weird idea we had that day. He’d play this over-the-top weatherman hyping up the “forecast” — which usually meant telling people to go skate, surf, snowboarding, or do something outside even if it was pouring rain.

I produced, shot, and edited each episode — handled the cheesy motion graphics, cut the footage, even made the music on this old keyboard I had lying around. The whole thing was meant to be light and weird but still carry that “get outside and make it happen” energy that Next Adventure was all about.

Looking back, it’s cool how a long-term job like that gave me space to experiment and create stuff that was just genuinely fun. Working with people like Orrin — friends who didn’t mind being total goofballs for the sake of a good video — made it even better.
